Installation and Repair of Timeclocks (Astro Timers) in Edinburgh

Astronomical timers (Astro timers) are essential for tenement buildings previously maintained by Edinburgh Council. These timers ensure stair lighting operates efficiently and in compliance with Edinburgh Council's regulations, as the Council continues to cover the energy costs. Without a functioning astronomical timer, the Council may install a meter and transfer the electricity costs directly to the property owners.

Lightbulb Moments specialises in the installation and syncing of timeclocks across the Edinburgh area. As one of Edinburgh's most trusted contractors, we handle all stair lighting repairs and offer expert LED lighting installations.

How do Astro Timers work?

Astro timers use precise coordinates to track the Sun. As contractors, we input the coordinates for Edinburgh-  56° North and 3° West - to track the sun's movements. Once programmed, they automatically adjust the lighting schedule by 2 to 7 minutes daily to align with changing daylight hours. They also update automatically for British Summer Time (BST), ensuring seamless and efficient operation year-round. We set our timers to come on around 30 minutes before sunset and 30  minutes after sunrise (up to an hour on either side at the customers' request).

Why do Astro timeclocks need to be repaired?

The primary purpose of the timer is to protect the tubes, LEDs, and bulkheads by ensuring they operate only when needed. A correctly programmed timer can double their lifespan, reducing the frequency of replacements and maintenance. Additionally, a faulty timer can cause lights to remain on permanently, leading to unnecessary energy consumption and a negative environmental impact. Properly functioning timers are crucial for sustainability and cost efficiency.
